To be able to check the current version of Windows 10 Home used on your computer, you can follow the following steps.

First type CMD (Command Prompt) in the search box, then right-click to open CMD with Run as administrator permission

DISM /online /Get-CurrentEdition

For the line Current Edition: displays the version of Windows you are using.

DISM /online /Get-TargetEditions

Target Edition line: shows the versions that you can upgrade to. After you have verified that your computer supports that upgrade version, follow the steps below to upgrade the version of Windows you are using.

Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro for Free​

Way 1​

First type CMD (Command Prompt) in the search box, then right-click to open CMD with Run as administrator permission

sc config LicenseManager start= auto & net start LicenseManager
sc config wuauserv start= auto & net start wuauserv
changepk.exe /productkey VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
exit
Copy and paste the above code into CMD then Enter. Wait for a while, your computer will automatically reboot and automatically upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Way 2​

Type CMD (Command Prompt) in the search box, then right-click to open CMD with Run as administrator permission

slmgr.vbs /upk
slmgr.vbs /ckms
slmgr.vbs /cpky
slmgr.vbs /rearm
net stop sppsvc
cd %windir%\system32\spp\store\2.0
ren tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
cscript.exe %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /rilc
exit

Copy and paste the above code into CMD. Wait for CMD to run for a while, if you see a message, just click OK. Finally, if you see the line C:\Windows\System32\spp\store\2.0>exit then press Enter. Then restart your computer and open CMD and enter the following command:

cscript.exe %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Wait for the process to run for a while, restart your computer for Windows to upgrade itself to the pro version.

Way 3

  • Disconnect all Wifi and Internet connections of the computer.
  • Then you enter Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation
  • Click Change product key import key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T >> Next. The computer system will ask if you have to Restart, then you open the network and Restart to start the Windows upgrade process.

When you are upgrading your version of Windows from Home to Education or Professional and encounter this error, follow these steps. The error appears when you go to Settings-> Update & Security-> Activation. Try activating Windows with a new key.

Open Command Prompt with administrator permission by typing CMD in the Run dialog box (Win + R), and then pressing the Enter key. Then use the dism/online/get-targeteditions command and it will reveal the list of Windows versions you are allowed to upgrade to from the current version.
